Hello February and hello, you.
I’m writing to you from under boxes this week, having just moved from our longtime base in London’s sprawling cityscape to the big skies of coastal Scotland. At a time when I’m called to hibernate, it’s felt counterintuitive to spring into action, dismantle my life, and begin a new one (especially while launching my new book).
In many moments my thoughts turn to those for whom upheaval is unplanned and catastrophic — most recently to those in my native state of California, whose lives have been upended in inconceivable ways. If you’ve been affected by the Los Angeles area fires I’m sending prayers and love.
As our homes inevitably shift, evolve, and are sometimes turned upside-down in the most challenging of ways, I’ve been thinking about home as a practice and wondering —
