I’ve experienced some (many) squeezed moments this week — the convergence of the last week of the school half term, wrapping up a big project, preparing for time away… Transitional space narrowing into focused action. Moments that are, well, just that. Passing moments. And yet, the sensations of busyness have a way of lingering in the body, long after those moments pass… jaw tight, pulse tense, breaths quick and shallow… the distinct accumulation of tension.
More than anything, I notice a lack of space in my head — it’s as if there’s no space between my thoughts.
Have you ever felt this?
Take a deep breath in…
a slow breath out…
I remember, again, that it’s often when we feel like we don’t have time to slow down that we need it the most. Last week I wrote about the importance of transitions — a reminder to pay attention to the in between spaces and to stay close to yourself as you go. We speed up and those spaces evaporate. So let’s practice — slow down your breathing and notice how things slow down in your head. Create more space between each of your thoughts, making clear transitions from one thing to the next, to support yourself to do what you need to do…
This video, Create Space Meditation — *just* 5 minutes of slowing down, breathing deeply, paying attention. If you feel like you don’t have time (or you’re not into meditating) this is for you.
Inhale —
fill up and up and up
Pause…
notice the fullness
of your breath, your thought, your feeling
Exhale —
let it go let it go let it go…
without holding
notice
the natural emptiness
clarity
that comes
when you stay with yourself
in your breath
in the moment
slow down your breathing
slow things down in your head
feel the space that you’re creating
for yourself
keep going…
Continue as you move through your day — one thing at a time, breath by breath, moment by moment. Even as you get to it.
