Savouring Winter
There's (still) time
Writing to you from a suburban trampoline park, as one often does during school breaks. A meditation in itself — sitting quietly on the sidelines with my chai and a soft lion toy, looking up at a regular cadence to meet the joy in my kids’ eyes, our smiles a mutual reassurance. My breathing is deep and steady thanks to my morning warm up. The practice now is to sit with and savour these fluorescent Katy Perry soundtracked moments even as I’d rather linger in the sunlit corner of my sofa that stopped me in my house tidying tracks this morning. They’re one and the same, really. Everything just as it is.
I had planned to write this week about preparing for spring and instead find myself surveying all there is to savour right now, in late winter. Inspired by a recent newsletter share from dear Elena Brower, a brief inventory (if you’ve been here for a while you know this is a favourite practice) —
Remembering that rest is readiness.
Getting in bed at 7:30pm with a book.
Falling asleep holding my kids’ hands.
Presencing tween confusion, free from any inclination to insert opinion.
Bracing walks with friends (you know who you are) no matter the stormy weather.
Following the breath all the way out… and all the way back in…
Watching the tea leaves.
…
Glimmers abound, we don’t have to wait for spring or a fully ticked off to do list to settle ourselves in these moments that are working, so well. There’s time now. Tiny anchors and renewals that fuel us to do what we need to do. Gentle movements toward balance, ever available to me and to you, right where we are.
What are you savouring now, in late winter?
A brief pause now from me for the rest of February. As ever Your Weekly Reset video library is here for you to use as much as you like, whenever you like — a fluid balance of strength and flexibility, core stability, and stress easing practices. If there areas you’d like to focus on in the season ahead I’d love to hear, please drop a note.
With thanks for being here, and for your practice. See you in March. xx
