As each month opens I spend some time feeling for the common threads of the moment and begin to gently pull on them. It’s a bit like taking inventory and then making a bouquet from what’s come forward.
A full dandelion orb, sun drenched countertops, bare feet sinking into freshly baked sand… let go of headlines like public holidays, last days of school, and work deliverables, and there we find and feel the undercurrent of the season. A steadier beat. Intentions ready to be blown into the warm winds of more spacious days ahead.
If ever there was a time to notice what you notice and to land there, it’s now — summertime, here time, ease time.
June is the gateway. Ease is in season. Depending on whether you follow the meteorological or astrological calendar, summer arrives on the 1st of June or on the solstice, rising on the 21st this month. I clock both and welcome these weeks as a dependable annual shift. I’m reminded that alongside all the new appearances that accompany the arc of the year, there are also many constants — inhaling and exhaling, a cup of tea alongside my morning stretch, a pile of books beside my bed, the emergence of the season itself…
So often we cloak ourselves in busyness and ease feels laughably illusive, an occasional happenstance or luxury. This is our time to cast off our layers and find our way beneath the inertia of getting things done. Gather instead your own attention, let it settle, and watch where it lands. This is an entry point to ease in this season.
What could ease look like in your life right now? What might ease feel like?
Is it the soft residue of a deep and restful sleep? A to do list, discarded? The weekend? Space to sit and think and dream and write? That unexpected hour when your kids play together so sweetly that it frees to you prepare dinner in peace?
Pause and feel for it.
Well? Go on then.
Inhale deeply — create more space…
Exhale completely — move into it…
Repeat in a few minutes, and a bit later on, and again before bed… collate your moments of here time and note their accompanying ease. Stay close to yourself and your ease as you move through June, July, August…
Thank you for being here and for practicing.
