We’re knee deep in the muckiest part of winter — barren branches, muddy shoes, greige palette (still). But if you look closely you’ll see that things are beginning to shift. I first notice this in the way the light moves across my walls, casting shadows of the windows I’ll throw open and climb through in the months ahead. There’s about two more minutes (depending on your location) of daylight following each sunrise, it stretches out slowly just as we might reach our arms overhead and lean side to side upon waking. Spring’s first glimmers, subtle hints of emergence.
Vernal Equinox, this year on the 20th March, is a moment of balance. Day and night will match momentarily before light overtakes, inviting us to inhale into the new season and all its possibilities. It’s a time to touch gently as we emerge from our winter duvets and dens.
What does this moment of seasonal transition feel like in your body?
Where is the balance?
How can your practice support you?
These are questions I’ve explored at the intersection of yoga and writing with
over the last year at our seasonal x Balance Practice workshops, a unique collaboration that combines these embodied practices to create space and find balance in the season you’re in. While our gatherings at London’s lush Chelsea Physic Garden last summer and autumn proved beautifully nourishing opportunities to practice together in person, they sold out very quickly. We wanted to make these special sessions more widely available (and entirely free) to our member communities, so we offered our first-ever online workshop over the Winter Solstice, which participants have (rightly) described as “cosy”, “relaxing” and “nourishing”.I love working with Alice because her ways of seeing offer up a looking glass to our own attention. Her writing is delicious — it’s something to savour, truly, and creates entry points to the beauty in front of us here, now. I’m thrilled to continue our seasonal workshop series online next month with our first spring edition of savour x Balance Practice — a gentle hour of yoga, writing, and emergence.
This is a save-the-date — mark your diaries! Paying members will be sent the link to access and download the workshop, which will be dedicated to supporting your gentle emergence into spring. If it’s not a good time, we’ll send the recording out afterwards so you can do it whenever and wherever it works for you.
If you want to come and you’re not already a subscriber, you can sign up here to get the full invite.
yoga, writing, emergence
Date and time: 12-1pm GMT on Wednesday, 12th March
Location: online (subscribers will receive the link nearer the event)
What: I’ll lead an accessible, nourishing yoga practice to support your body to gently open into spring. Alice will offer a short creative writing workshop to explore how we can write to make space and harness our attention as we move into lighter days. You can do as much or as little of it as you like, as often as you like.
We look forward to marking spring’s arrival with you!
Hope to be there 💫 xx
